Nikita Teryoshin for The PhotoBookMusem

"Hotels are my first choice, especially the GRAND HOTEL PARR, where everything suits my taste."

Martin Parr, October 2025

He likes to refer to himself as ‘Mr Ordinary’. Others call him ‘the most famous photographer in the world’. British MAGNUM photographer Martin Parr (born in 1952 in Epsom near London) is one of the most influential image makers of our time. With satirical sharpness, he holds up a mirror to our species. Like no other, Parr captures the global excesses of communication, tourism and consumption, but also national peculiarities. His iconic photographs have become part of our visual culture.

And the photobook? Thanks to Martin Parr’s commitment, the medium has come to the forefront of photography since the turn of the millennium. His comprehensive publication The Photobook: A History, co-authored with Gerry Badger, is considered a milestone in the history of photography. Today, the photobook is an established artistic medium in the realm of visual arts.

In collaboration with The PhotoBookMuseum, the Neues Museum Nürnberg invites visitors to explore, for the first time, a retrospective of the photobooks that Martin Parr has published himself over a period of five decades. In the ambience of a British beach hotel, the exhibition displays over 200 different book objects ‘made by Martin Parr’. They reveal him to be a passionate author and communicator of the photobook. It is worth allowing plenty of time for a visit to the GRAND HOTEL PARR. Because it’s all about leafing through and discovering, browsing and rummaging, lingering and observing.

Enjoy your stay at the GRAND HOTEL PARR!
